Melodoodle is a tool for creating the first concept of a song. It is not intended for producing (I'm just one overworked guy, I do what I can) and it will never get you a final product. But it will bring your idea to existence. And that's all it needs to do.
Hi, I'm Pablo. I like building small apps to solve my day-to-day problems.
This time, with Melodoodle (sounds cute, am I right?), the problem was music. I do covers, and I've been trying to write my own songs. But, who would have thought being creative was actually difficult?
On top of that, I kept fighting the software instead of creating. Most apps are either too basic, too bloated, or somehow both. And you have to pay. I might add that I was in a creative block, and ended up procrastinating by, well... creating this app.
What I needed was simple: pick some chords, record my voice on top, sketch out melody ideas. But whenever I recorded a full song in one go, the chorus at the end sounded nothing like the one at the beginning.
So I needed "sections". Loop the Verse thirty times until it feels right. Do the same with the Chorus. When you're happy, duplicate them to build the full structure.
Then record the whole thing, or each section individually if you want small variations. Oh, and tabs would be nice to know when to strum... You get the idea.
Evidently, this app went beyond what I first intended. But hey, looks good on my CV.
Enjoy this thing, it's made with love and hate but with good intentions too.
TL;DR
The goal is simple: capture the song idea before it escapes, with enough structure to help you develop it later.
